Young Allies Preview

Sorry for the late post. I'm not firing on all cylinders today. Hopefully, I can get back up to speed by tomorrow. In the meantime, Newsarama has a 7 page art preview for Young Allies.

Later this week, I'll be returning to my hometown, Daytona Beach, FL, to attend my 10-year high school reunion. After that is my visit to the Natural History Museum, followed by Wizard World Philly. June looks to be a busy month.

  1. Hey Paolo,

Love your color palette in these pages especially 3,4, and 7. I've noticed that your colors are a bit brighter which is a good thing. I had taken a class for digital coloring and the main rule to digital coloring is to use as little or no black (K) at all when choosing colors in the CMYK slider. Because if you have any K in your palette it will totally dull the colors and be different from screen to actual print. Also the teacher had told us that you can make any dark colors without having to use any K you just have to choose the right level mixtures between (C)yan (M)agenta and (Y)ellow. Great job and can't wait to see it on the shelves!

  2. You've accomplished a lot more in your 10 years out of high school than I had. (I was busy graduating from RISD on the same day as my reunion.)

  4. Hey Paolo congrads on a job well done . So now that you have done both . Do you find yourself preferring the traditional comics approach over the painted approach or is it something you see yourself bouncing back and forth between?

  7. I really like how you're using subdued colour, with barely any rendering. Most comics are horribly over-rendered; there's a lot to say for flat colour done well. Kudos to you sir.

  8. Thanks for the kind words, guys. I just saw an advanced copy of the book and it printed perfectly!!!!! I couldn't be happier.

Manny, I'm going to devote an entire post to my new coloring specs. I've heard what you're talking about, but that wasn't my main issue.

Ray, I think I'm pretty much done with painted comics. I still like painting, but just covers now. Glad I did it, though. Nothing makes you better at painting than painting 167 comic pages (except, of course, painting 170).
